Holiday Inn: A New Hotel in the Center of Yerevan

The historical monument-building at 2 Amiryan street was built in 1896, designed by architect Michael von der Nonne. At first, there was a male gymnasium here, and then, starting from 1936, there functioned the library named after Avetik Isahakyan. Now the building is being reconstructed. Here the Holiday Inn hotel will open its doors. The hotel will have 6 floors from Amiryan street: two glazed and two stone floors will be added to the two historical floors. The upper part of the hotel façade is made of Noyemberyan felsite tufa to fit with the Government House 2, and below, between felsite and historical facades, the glass curtain wall highlights the historical building domination against the general background. «Thus, we aimed to develop the environment by emphasizing the importance and value of these two buildings so that the new ones look secondary on their background»,- explains the architect Isahak Nersisyan. Yerevan Holiday Inn is planned to be a 4-star mid-range hotel occupying a total area of 23700 square meters. The hotel will have 191 rooms, 11 of which will be suites with separate bedrooms and living rooms, the rest are mainly double standard and executive rooms. The hotel will have two entrances, one from Amiryan Street and the other from the inner courtyard, where you can pass through the arch of the historic building. The first floors of the historic building on Amiryan street will be rented out as public spaces. At the top of the building there will be an open-air cafe with Pergola awnings and mobile canopies. The first floor of the second historic building in the inner courtyard will also be given for rent. The hotel complex will have 6-7 floors and 3 underground levels. On the first floor there will be: the hotel lounge, reception, bar, restaurant and other public areas, which are designed in Holiday Inn hotels’ style by open lobby stile, without partition walls. And the functional separation of the areas will be done with design solutions. The second floor of the hotel will be a sophisticated event area with conference rooms of various formats - 3 large and 4 small. From the third floor the hotel rooms are located, designed in a general style specific to Holiday Inn hotels. Isahak Nersisyan, the architect of the project notes, that they have not set the task of making some Armenian accents, the only difference from other Holiday Inn hotels will be the design of the carpets. «The carpets are knitted by special order with Armenian ornaments and with artificial wear and tear for giving them ancient look». On the 7th floor of the hotel there will be fitness and spa center, gyms and a large swimming pool. The interior design of the hotel rooms and corridors was carried out by the NST Architects headed by Isahak Nersisyan and the design of the hotel's public areas, conference halls, fitness center was developed by the Russian AD Design. Archangel architectural studio from Armenia also participated in the work designing the interior courtyard and Jivani restaurant.

The Best Traditions Continue

In 2020 the next hotel of Tufenkian Heritage Hotels chain will open its doors for guests in Areni village, Armenia. According to the recent statement made by Prime-Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Areni community will become one of the most important centers for the investment and economic revolution. A very important investment program was launched here, as a result of which the Tufenkian hotel complex will be built. '' This is an investment of tens of millions of dollars in Areni, and that will be the biggest Tufenkian hotel in Armenia. The opening of this hotel in Areni will make an economic revolution in this region,” - said Pashinyan. Taking into account the rich traditions of the village, the presence of historical and cultural monuments, the picturesque landscape, mild climate and the festival, which has become traditional - this investment project is not surprising. However, it is also important that all these positive changes do not harm the typical village atmosphere. According to preliminary design, the hotel complex will occupy 13,400 square meters area neighboring H40 highway. New hotel complex will consist of three 2-6-storey buildings and 106 hotel rooms. The hotel will include indoor and outdoor pools, spa, restaurant, outdoor parking, conference hall and other facilities. Now the project is on construction stage, the foundation casting works are being implemented. The hotel will be commissioned in 2020.

Tulip Shaped Tower To Be Built In Miami

In downtown Miami, a developer from Istanbul is gearing up to break ground on the, a 70-story, 271-meter-tall tower that may become one of the state of Florida’s tallest buildings. Billionaire businessman Bekir Okan envisions a mixed-use high-rise whose residents and visitors can swim in a pool on the 70th floor, relax in a Turkish bath, and stay overnight in a Hilton-branded hotel. Located at 555 North Miami Ave., west of Biscayne Boulevard and northwest of Miami-Dade College, the project carries a $300 million price tag — fully financed by Okan himself, his company says. The project is designed to contain 153 residential condo units, 236 condo-hotel units, a 294-room full-service hotel and 8,361 square meters of office and meeting room space. The 66th floor will be devoted to a restaurant. In a nod to Miami’s reputation as a place for experimental architectural design, the building’s silhouette will take the shape of a tulip, the national flower of Turkey. The proposed structure would rise slightly north of the main federal courthouse — which takes the shape of a cruise ship. The building would slightly edge out the recently opened on Brickell Avenue in Miami, which rises to an architectural height of 252 meters and an unofficial tip height including the antennas of 262 meters. That building eclipsed the nearby, which stands at 240 meters. The developer is in the process of selecting a general contractor and negotiating a franchise agreement with Hilton. The project is expected to break ground in the late fall of 2018, with aims to complete in 2022.

Norway To Build World’s First “Energy Positive” Hotel

Snøhetta has unveiled its design for "Svart," a hotel for sustainable tourism company Arctic Adventure of Norway. Located within the Arctic Circle, on the edge of Norway's Holandsfjorden fjord at the base of the Svartisen glacier, the building is designed to the "Powerhouse" building standard, a system developed by Snøhetta and a group of collaborators for creating energy-positive sustainable buildings. Designed in a distinctive ring shape that allows visitors to feel in touch with the surroundings, the structure of the building was inspired by traditional Norwegian fishing structures: the “fiskehjell,” an A-shaped wooden structure for drying fish, and the “rorbue,” a type of seasonal house used by fishermen. These two references contributed to the building's supporting structure of poles that support the building above the water while making minimal contact with the ecosystem. These supports also enable a walkway around the ring of the hotel that visitors will be able to enjoy in the summer. The Powerhouse standard used for the design was developed by Snøhetta alongside Entra, Skanska, the ZERO Emission Resource Organization and Asplan Viak. The standard outlines a requirement for the building to not only be energy-positive, but to generate more renewable energy over a 60-year period than the total amount of energy that would be required to both sustain daily operations and to build, produce materials, and demolish the building. In order to achieve this level of sustainability on the design of Svart, Snøhetta conducted an extensive survey of the solar conditions at the site throughout the year, eventually settling on the ring shape in order to place rooms, restaurants, and terraces in locations that make the most of the available solar energy. Meanwhile solar panels on the roof while harvest energy, producing more energy than buildings slightly further south due to the 24-hour daylight conditions over the summer, and geothermal wells will harness the energy from the ground below for heating purposes.
